FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Do I need to take a resveratrol supplement?
Nutritional supplements are intended to promote the healthy structure and function of the body's cells, tissues and organs. There is extensive scientific evidence for the benefits of Reziva brand resveratrol for healthy vision, weight and glucose control, normal cellular replication and function, heart circulation, neuroprotective effects, and more. However, the United States Food and Drug Administration does not allow the marketing of nutritional supplements for the pharmacologic treatment of disease. Therefore, we recommend that you investigate the extensive information on this site and download our free Resveratrol White Paper from the home page.

Is Reziva made from wine?
Reziva brand resveratrol is extracted from the same French red grapes that are used to make wine, but Reziva is not made from the wine itself. The process is performed in a sterile environment and using organic methods without chemical solvents. Finally, Reziva does not contain any alcohol.

How much resveratrol per day is enough?
Most animal studies support peak benefit in the 20-40 mg range per day. There is no evidence that additional resveratrol provides additional advantages. Reziva brand resveratrol contains 600 mg powder from red grape extract, which provides 30 mg of trans-resveratrol.

Why is Reziva more expensive than other resveratrol supplements?
Most resveratrol supplements are formulated in China and derived from Polygonum cuspidatum, also known as Japanese Knotweed. Extractions from this weed are cheap, not only because it grows rampantly throughout Eastern Asia, but additionally, because these weedy plants contain 50% trans-resveratrol, so the extraction is both efficient and cheap. However, the polygonum capsidatum resveratrol also contains high amounts of a natural chemical called emodin. Although emodin has been used to reduce inflammation, some resveratrol supplements containing Japanese knotweed have unusually high amounts of this substance, which can cause gastrointestinal problems including diarrhea, stomach cramps and bloating. Prolonged use of emodin has been associated with an increased risk of liver and kidney damage. In contrast, Reziva brand resveratrol is derived naturally from red grapes. The percentage of trans-resveratrol from red grapes is only 5%, which makes the extraction less efficient. Unlike other resveratrol supplements made using Polygonum Cuspidatum (Japanese knotweed), Reziva contains concentrated trans-resveratrol, oligomeric proanthocyanidins, anthocyanins and wine polyphenols - just like real red wine.

Why doesn't Reziva contain additional ingredients that other manufacturers include?
Our philosophy at Vitamin Science, Inc. is to include only those ingredients that are shown to be of benefit in scientific research from the most reputable scientific journals. The evidence for adding additional ingredients is weak or nonexistent. Furthermore, studies comparing pure resveratrol supplements with others that contain extraneous ingredients has not been performed. Finally, the addition of more ingredients to resveratrol supplements may actually inhibit the beneficial activity of the trans-resveratrol.

How long has Reziva been around?
Reziva is not a new synthetic ingredient, nor an unusual or exotic chemical. Reziva is quite simply, red grapes, pressed and extracted to provide a high concentration of the compound within that provides longevity, eye health and a myriad of other benefits. Reziva is concentrated life.
